More ways

How you can help is not limited to first aid - many volunteers contribute within support functions such as logistics or communications. Volunteering can help you gain experience in your area of interest and connect with others in the field.

At major events and large-scale emergencies, St John Communications Team are crucial in providing support to our frontline crews.

The teams run the state-wide event management system and communication network to relay messages to our first aid crews and help them provide fast and efficient emergency responses.  We utilise the SA government radio network and St John UHF radios to deliver services across the state.

Operations Services Support Group

The St John Logistics group provide essential support at events with roles including:

  • maintenance of medical supplies throughout events
  • warehouse and equipment management
  • set up of marquees and structures for treatment centres at events

Public relations and recruitment

St John, as an esteemed and valued member of the community, is often asked to attend local community events and not only provide first aid, but also to let the community know about first aid training, kits, and volunteer opportunities available.

As part of this group you can further develop your skills of communication and you will have the satisfaction of starting more people on their journey with St John.

A great work experience opportunity for Marketing/Public Relations students.

Adminstration/Finance/Property Management

Managing a St John Division and our local first aid volunteers requires other additional support, which when shared, becomes manageable and enjoyable. You could provide that support in administrative tasks, rostering, managing divisional finances and maintaining property and equipment. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated and you will become a valuable member of the division and team.

Historical Society

If you have an interest in history and St John, we have an active group of volunteers and a Museum located at 72 Edmund Avenue Unley.

Volunteers of all ages can spend half days in the museum with fellow volunteers and can act as guides in the museum or be involved in research or cataloguing items and entering data in the museum-oriented software program.

If you're musically inclined, the St John band offers tuition in a variety of brass instruments as well as useful first aid skills!
