Lifesaving skills for Nepabunna community

Lifesaving skills for Nepabunna community

27 February 2019

In January this year, two St John SA First Aid Trainers travelled to the remote Aboriginal community of Nepabunna, located approximately 610km from Adelaide to deliver the specialised Remote Area First Aid (RAFA) 3-day course to local Rangers and community members.

On the first day of the course, participants gained the Provide First Aid qualification, followed by two days of learning how to manage a patient who may be several hours from care in a remote location. This training covered skills such as taking a basic set of observations (breathing and pulse rates, temperature, blood pressure and pupil reactions).

It was fantastic to see how enthusiastic the participants were to learn new skills that can be utilised within their own community as well as on the job.
