Once again, St John Volunteers responded promptly and efficiently to a call from the CFS and SAAS to assist with the recent bushfire across the mid-north of South Australia last month. Thank you to all St John volunteers who provided first aid and medical services to those who worked tirelessly to contain the blaze. At the staging points, St John teams were called upon to provide multiple eyewashes and treatment for many minor medical and trauma cases. Without your support we cannot continue to provide this essential service, so thank you. Our hearts go out to all those affected.

$74,551 raised so far as part of Pinery Fire Bushfire Appeal. Together with Bendigo Bank we proudly launched a Bushfire Appeal last month for those affected by the devastating fires. Bendigo Bank’s Virginia & Districts Community Bank® branch kick started the Appeal with a $20,000 donation. Being only 15 kilometres from the fire front and having customers impacted this was a “no-brainer for them” said Branch Manager, Alf Sobczak. “If we support them in the good times, of course we should be there during times of difficulty and disaster” he said.

Donation lines are still open online. Please give generously...

Will you help us teach primary school students what to do in an emergency? Thanks to your continuing support, St John has been able to provide free first aid training to South Australian primary school students. To date we have trained 30,000 kids between the ages of 5 and 13 with skills that can save a life. However we simply cannot meet the overwhelming demand from schools for this training. There is currently an 8 month waiting list for the program.

As our Break the Barrier campaign draws to a close, we would like to thank our Media Partners - Channel 7 and 104.7 Triple M. Their support in helping us communicate this important community message about the importance of first aid and knowing what do do in an emergency has been fantastic. We would also like to congratulate all who were prompted to book a first aid course after seeing the ad, as well as those who have completed a course with us in 2015. You are one of over 57,000 South Australians who are now equipped with important life saving skills. You should be proud! Share the Break the Barrier message to encourage others to do the same!

Congratulations to all five RUSH HOUR TO THE RESCUE defibrillator competition winners! Thanks to all who entered by sharing their stories with Jars & Louie from The Rush Hour on 104.7 Triple M. We hope this prompted many more sports and community clubs to invest in a lifesaving defibrillator for their community. While we hope they never need to be used, we are so glad that you are all prepared just in case. We can confidently say that defibs increase the chance of someone surviving a Sudden Cardiac Arrest by up to 80%. Find out more about Defibrillators and their benefits...
