ST JOHN PREPARES FOR THE FIRST AFL SHOWDOWN AT ADELAIDE OVAL

St John Ambulance SA is preparing for the first sell out event on Saturday, when the Port Adelaide Football Club takes on the Adelaide Crows at the newly redeveloped Adelaide Oval.

55,000 footy fans are expected at the new facility on March 29, as supporters from across South Australia flock to the stadium to be a part of one of the state’s biggest sporting events of the year, and St John Venue Coordinator Daniel Symons says his team could not be better prepared.

"St John personnel are excited about their duties at Adelaide Oval, with the Showdown kicking off the AFL season at the stadium. The state-of-the-art facilities will assist St John in delivering the best possible care to the public at large scale events such as these," Mr Symons said.

"The stadium includes five treatment centres, a fully equipped medical centre, purpose built specialised medical equipment, underground access to the stands, and there are more defibrillators than the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

"Underground access will enable our first aid personnel to respond quickly and effectively to the needs of the public, no matter where they are positioned in the stadium," he said.

Twenty-eight St John personnel, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and trained medical staff, will be strategically placed around Adelaide Oval, and fully equipped to provide whatever first aid or medical help is needed.

"We are encouraging all footy fans to drink safely, check the weather conditions and most importantly familiarise themselves with the venue.

"We are delighted to be working with Adelaide Oval Stadium Management. We also congratulate Adelaide Oval Stadium Management for choosing to work with an South Australian not-for-profit healthcare organisation where funds raised go back to the community.

"We look forward to having a continued presence at the venue over the next few years for major South Australian events," he said.

St John is providing first aid services at 72 events each year at Adelaide Oval including cricket, AFL, concerts and large private functions. St John previously provided services at AAMI Stadium, for 45 contracted events.
